ROUTE & TERRAIN
The 50k is a 1-lap course and it is a varied, multi-terrain course around Reading, consisting of approximately 80% trial and 20% road surface. The course includes flat river & canal towpaths, undulating woodland trails, country lanes and cuts through Reading’s many urban green spaces. The terrain should be mainly firm underfoot, but can also be wet & slippery in places if we have a lot of rain beforehand.
It is your responsibility to stay distanced, according to the current government guidelines, from other runners and other users of the paths & trails at all times
There are five checkpoints/feedstations on the course. It is mandatory to visit each checkpoint even if you don't require food/water. You may also have your own personal nutrition delivered ahead of your arrival to checkpoints 3, 4 & 5, which can be dropped in the box at the start - this is a FREE service. Full details in the RUNNERS RACE GUIDE on the Race Information page
Yellow/black arrows & red/white tape for the whole course. In addition there are small orange RRUM stickers on lamposts as back-up. You will be sent the final GPS file for the route in the week before race day – make sure you use this final version as changes could be made. There will be a google map version of the route made available, showing checkpoints and any public toilets along the route
The cut-off time is 9hrs - this is taken from the latest start time at 8am. If you start earlier, you get more time! Each checkpoint will have it's own cut-off time and you will be required to retire if you fall behind this time. For individual checkpoint cut-off times please see the RUNNERS RACE GUIDE on the Race Information page
The cut off time for the finish is 5pm, therefore 9hrs (from 8am) 10hrs (from 7am)
